First of it's kind memorial to honor living veterans of Afghanistan and Iraq conflicts

http://www.nowpublic.com/world/first-its-kind-monument-living-veterans-afghanistan-and-iraq-conficts-dedicated

DERRY, NH - May 26, 2008 is the date in which a first of it's kind memorial was unveiled at MacGregor park in Derry, NH. Derry, which is not unfamiliar with the national spotlight during the US Presidential race, takes center stage once again by dedicating a brand new memorial to all living veterans of the conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq.

To start things off there was a "Welcome Home" parade for all veterans, a fly-over by a National Guard UH-60 Blackhawk, which was then followed by the dedication ceremony. The ceremony was choreographed and set to music, for a truly memorable experience. In attendance were members of the Monument Committee, the American Legion, the VFW, the Boy Scouts of America, Pinkerton Academy JROTC, Derry's own "Band of Brothers", US Armed Service members from all branches, and hundreds of townspeople who were all there to see the event. Governor John Lynch was the keynote speaker and presented an Executive Commendation to Derry Town Council Chairman, Rick Metts. State Senator Bob Letourneau presented a Senate Proclamation to the town.

Wireless LAN Woes on Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.2

Well this isn't a photography issue other than I was having connection issues with my PowerBook G4 1.25GHz Mac. I wasn't able to connect to the internet via Airport after upgrading to 10.5.2. I scoured the interwebs trying to find out what the problem was. I was able to ping other FiOS IP's and the DNS server for my FiOS connection but I wasn't able to actually see the internet. I could access my D-Link router and my DVR on this side of the router but nothing outside my little world.

I called FiOS support and after about 14 minutes I got someone who was able to help me out. We did the normal reboot the router routine which didn't solve anything. Here is what helped me out. We reset my WEP key. For some reason after upgrading to 10.5.2 the OS hosed my WEP key in such a way I was able to ONLY see the internal network. Strange as it sounds this fixed the problem.

I asked the support person why this answer wasn't online and he told me it's only for Mac's and didn't effect lots of users. Well after he told me that he gets calls all the time for this type of problem with Mac's. Seems to me like there is a need for a solution to be posted online so here it is.

Reset your WEP key on your Airport connection to get access to the internet back.

The Digital Photography Book Volume 2 Review

I picked up this book by Scott Kelby recently and have found it extremely well written and chocked full of useful tips. This book is a follow up to Kelby's The Digital Photography Book. Volume 2 has all new tips and expands on some of the favorites in the original. Together they make up a great one-two punch for getting to know your digital camera better.

Geared towards people who own digital SLR type cameras it helps you get out of AUTO mode and shows you how to take great pictures. Tips are setup one per page or two and are interjected with Kelby's witty humor. Tips on lighting, how to shoot just about everything. A top notch book by one of the best writers out there.

I recommend not only the new book but also the first one as well.

Save the Red Baron Pizza Squadron

I got this note in my inbox this evening from Ed Shipley and I wanted to get it out to as many people as possible.

Dear AirShowBuzz.com Member,

On December 3, The Schwan Food Company decommissioned The Red Baron Pizza Squadron after 28 years of amazing air show flying. The Red Barons are truly an American treasure and their abrupt retirement is a devastating loss to our national aviation heritage. We need to do something about it and we need your help to do it.

Please click on the link below to go to AirShowBuzz.com and sign a petition we've started called:

SAVE THE RED BARONS!

Most importantly, please pass this link around and encourage all your friends to do the same. Also, if you have an account with Digg.com be sure to vote for the submission below so we can bring this to the attention of as many people as possible. Together we might all be able to make a difference so future generations can enjoy the sights and sounds of the greatest civilian formation team of all time.

Thank you for your consideration.

Boston Red Sox give me an early birthday present, Sign Mike Lowell to 3 year deal

Well they were a day early but the Sox gave me a present yesterday when they signed the league's best defensive 3rd baseman, Mike Lowell to a 3 year contract extension. Good news for Sox fans as Mike was crucial to the team winning the World Series this year.

Here's a picture of Mike during the 2007 World Series Victory Parade taken in Boston on Boylston Street.

Schilling Resigns with the Sox

Well after my last post I figured and the buzz around town was that Curt was going away. Instead he signs a deal worth $8 million with another $5 or so million in incentives.

This picture was taken during the victory parade on Boylston Street right in front of Shreve, Crump, and Low.
